Parkview Dental Practice

is an ultra-modern practice and the procedures and equipment we use is available at only a handful of practices in the UK. Some of the latest techniques are explained below.

Pit and Fissure Sealant... Pits and fissures are small breaches in the tooth's enamel which create a place for decay to get hold. It is necessary to close the pit in order to prevent this, but using the minimum of 'intrusive' dentistry (i.e. drilling). The development of acid etching often precludes the need to drill the tooth's enamel. It is quite normal to use this treatment on childrens' teeth (usually just the molars and premolars) to offer enhanced protection against the onset of decay. Sealant applied correctly and after proper preparation can last many years.
This non-intrusive procedure is entirely painless.

preparation

1... The pit is prepared by cleaning, conditioning and drying.
sealant

2... After preparation, the sealant is allowed to run onto the tooth's surface and into any pit or fissure present.

hardening

3... The sealant adheres to the tooth and is hardened by using a very strong light in the blue spectrum.
finished result

4... The finished result is a closed pit or fissure and full protection against future decay.
